Director of Finance and Development


As the Director of Development and Finance at YEAH! YOGA, you will lead development strategy and provide financial stewardship to promote financial health and growth across the organization.  In lieu of a traditional Executive Director function, at YEAH! YOGA the executive CORE leadership team works collaboratively to share accountability and make leadership decisions as a team.


As an integral part of the CORE leadership team, you will play a key role in driving the effectiveness and long-term stability of our impact. Reporting to the President of the Board of Directors in collaboration with others on the CORE leadership team, you will be responsible for leading budgeting, fundraising, and grant procurement initiatives, as well as supporting financial planning and strategy. 


This is a part-time, contracted position (1099-Contractor) starting at 15-24 hours/week at $25/ hour (up to $30,000 annually) with opportunity to expand to full-time as the organization grows. The position is based in New Orleans, LA and is hybrid-remote with flexibility to work from home. Limited local travel may be required to best collaborate with community partners.


Responsibilities


Funding Development (35%)

  • Develop and execute annual fundraising plan and strategy
  • Raise funds needed to sustain and grow the organization in collaboration with leadership through:
  • Grant research and writing
  • Strategizing on fees for services and IP
  • Fundraising/crowdfunding campaigns and events to secure financial support from individuals, foundations and corporations
  • Develop and track proposals and reports for all fundraising and grant partnerships
  • Verify that donations and grants are handled appropriately and contracts are accounted for in accordance with funder requirements 


Community Donorship Development (30%)

  • Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with major donors 
  • Manage donor database CRM
  • Lead fundraising, crowdfunding campaigns and events to secure financial support from community-based donors


Financial Management (20%)

  • Offer guidance to the leadership team to ensure good fiscal planning, decision-making and oversight at a governance level
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual budget and board review
  • Ensure that operating budgets are accurate and updated on an ongoing basis
  • Ensure YEAH! YOGA maintains appropriate, accurate, and up to date financial records
  • Ensure that government tax filings and remittances are submitted, working closely with our CPA
  • Serve as a co-signer of cheques with at least one other signing officer
  • Meet with an external auditor periodically
  • Liaison with the Board of Directors on pertinent financial information, concerns, and advisement on how to best utilize Board connections and resources


Collective Responsibilities in Leadership (15%)

  • Create and maintain relationships and partnerships with stakeholders and other organizations and individuals working in the juvenile justice, racial justice and social justice realms, using an intersectional approach
  • Recruitment of new teachers, assistants and other staff 
  • Long-term strategic planning
  • Direct communication and collaboration with executive leadership and commitment to smooth conflict resolution, with high integrity for personal and professional accountability

Preferred Qualifications 


The Director of Development and Finance is preferred to have:

  • At least five years of professional experience, including expertise in organizational budgeting (with preference given to nonprofit experience) 
  • Professional accounting experience as well as an understanding of, and experience with, good financial management and reporting practices
  • Experience should include legal, audit, compliance, budget, and resource development
  • Professional experience in community-based fundraising and individual donorship campaigns
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Business, Management, or Finance (preference given to MA/MBA) OR a Bachelor’s degree in an associated field with three years of comparable finance experience
  • Access to foundation networks, grant databases, or other funding resources that are not public facing 
  • Established community presence with relationships to advocacy groups, law firms, foundations, and other potential collaborators in the greater New Orleans area and beyond


Other professional skills preferred include:

  • Qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to YEAH! YOGA’s mission.
  • Excellent people skills, with experience collaborating in a multidisciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities and guiding stakeholder buy-in
  • Experience with technologies and database solutions for development and finance
  • Excellent writing/editing and verbal communication skills with a highly collaborative style
  • Relationship builder with the flexibility and influence to appeal to donors from diverse backgrounds and perspectives
  • The ability to think strategically about professional, personal, and organizational relationship building
  • Sincere commitment to work collaboratively with all constituent groups, including staff, board members, volunteers, donors, program participants, and other supporters
  • Flexible and a self-starter; able to multitask while also being highly detail-oriented
